Senior M&E Quantity Surveyor

Project Overview: A major hospital transformation is underway as part of the Hospitals £320m Transformation Programme (HTP). This includes the construction of a new four-storey building, set for completion by 2028. The facility will house enhanced emergency care, critical care, and women & children’s services. The project aims to deliver a state-of-the-art healthcare facility, with construction ongoing while hospital services remain operational.

We are seeking a Senior M&E Quantity Surveyor to join the £320M hospital transformation project. Reporting to the Lead Commercial Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the commercial and financial aspects of the Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) systems throughout the project lifecycle. You will work closely with project teams to ensure that M&E works are completed on time, within budget, and in line with contract specifications. Your role will involve managing costs, assessing risks, and maintaining detailed financial reports while ensuring compliance with all contractual and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the commercial and financial aspects of the M&E systems for the hospital transformation project.
  • Work closely with the Lead Commercial Manager to oversee and control M&E costs, ensuring the project stays within budget.
  • Prepare and review cost estimates, budgets, and financial forecasts for the M&E systems.
  • Assess and manage risks, providing advice on cost-saving measures and potential financial implications.
  • Review and negotiate subcontractor and supplier agreements to ensure value for money and contract compliance.
  • Prepare and submit timely valuations, change orders, and final accounts for M&E works.
  • Monitor cash flow and ensure payments are made and received in accordance with the contract terms.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly cost reports, highlighting potential budget overruns or savings.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, providing commercial input to design and construction decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual terms, conditions, and relevant regulations throughout the project.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional qualifications (MRICS, MCIOB, or equivalent) preferred but not essential.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in M&E quantity surveying, with a focus on large-scale building projects.
  • Experience in managing M&E costs within the healthcare, commercial, or similar sectors.
  • Proven track record in managing projects with a value of £5M+ MEP works.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of M&E systems, procurement processes, and contract management.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in cost management software and MS Office applications.
