Assistant M&E Quantity Surveyor

Project Overview: A major hospital transformation is underway as part of the Hospitals £320m Transformation Programme (HTP). This includes the construction of a new four-storey building, set for completion by 2028. The facility will house enhanced emergency care, critical care, and women & children’s services. The project aims to deliver a state-of-the-art healthcare facility, with construction ongoing while hospital services remain operational.

Reporting to the Senior M&E Quantity Surveyor and the Lead Commercial Manager, you will assist in managing the commercial and financial aspects of the Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) works, working alongside the project team to ensure M&E costs are effectively monitored and controlled. Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing the commercial and financial aspects of the M&E systems for the hospital transformation project.
  • Support the preparation and review of cost estimates, budgets, and financial forecasts for M&E works.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting valuations, change orders, and final accounts.
  • Help monitor project costs, identify cost-saving opportunities, and contribute to effective cost control.
  • Maintain detailed financial records and assist in the preparation of monthly cost reports.
  • Assist with the review of subcontractor and supplier agreements to ensure contract compliance.
  • Help assess risks and provide advice on financial implications for the M&E works.
  • Support the Senior M&E Quantity Surveyor in ensuring payments are made and received in accordance with contract terms.
  • Assist in managing cash flow and ensuring accurate invoicing and payments.
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary teams and assist in providing commercial input on M&E design and construction decisions.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Working towards professional qualifications (e.g., MRICS, MCIOB) would be advantageous.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in quantity surveying, preferably in M&E or construction projects.
  • Experience in assisting with cost management on large-scale building projects is desirable.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of M&E systems, cost management processes, and contract administration.
  • Good communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and cost management software.
